I stopped calling shots. I have easily shot a photo every week, quite a few more actually, but I have not called a shot for a long time. I’m a little bit surprised at myself for being able to do it every day last year but I think this is a different issue. My real issue is that I don’t like to plan out photography in the long term. I don’t like restrictions on what I can shoot. Often, I can walk away from an idea with a completely different photography and be equally as happy, if not more. The problem is that I can’t then post the photographs and say that it fits in with the theme when it really doesn’t.
I’m not bummed I failed this. No, I have learned quite a bit from it. I have learned that coming up with an idea drawing from nothing is a bad idea. That does nothing for me except leaves me frustrated. However, I’m more than happy to shoot an idea that someone has for me. What was really necessary here was people calling shots for me, but that’s a lot to ask. I don’t think I’d struggle with an assignment at all. It’s just the whole come up with an idea on your own with restrictions and a deadline just isn’t working for me. It’s a pick two out of the three type deal. That I can work with.
Hopefully, the ending of this project will mean more blog updates. All new work I shoot (and I have SO much to catch up with) will end up here. So check back every few weeks and you’ll get a glimpse of what I’ve been up to recently. At the end of the year, I’ll throw those images into the portfolio and then move on. It should work out for the better. I’m psyched to not have restrictions for the first time in over a year and a half. Although I didn’t achieve what I wanted with this project, I achieved other things that I didn’t even know I wanted. It helped to further inform me of how I work and how I shoot. Which I can’t complain about.
Connor,
Don’t sweat the petty things and don’t pet the sweaty things. You aren’t the first to drop out, you won’t be the last. I haven’t posted anything in the Project 52 for nearly a month. When I do have something to post, it is probably in the Film Forum and it is probably B&W. I have been having a lot of fun with my antiques, mostly the Graflex SLR’s. I also picked up a 4×5 Speed and a 2×3 Speed. They are a load of fun to use. I’m also trying to get out with my view camera more often, just haven’t had the chance of late. I enjoy your stuff, you are a very creative young man. So your thing, it is probably easier to do without the time constraints of the project you were in. I hae been posting stuff about once a week in the Film Forum, you might want to see some of my stuff. I just do it to have fun. Take care aqnd i hope to see some of your stuff soon.

Connor,
I completely understand, and I applaud all that you’ve accomplished. You not only have produced some outstanding work, you’ve inspired quite a few others, and that my friend, is no small feat!
